Internet Explorer falls below 60% marketshare in Europe

Internet Explorer has been losing market share for a few months and Microsoft seems unable to slow it down... This situation creates a true opportunity for competitors which have seen their share surge.

Internet Explorer Losing Share

The fall experienced by Internet Explorer parts has accentuated since late 2009. Global browser market share numbers recently released indicated that IE is losing users at an accelerated pace. Microsoft browser has suffered another loss of more than 3 points from its share of visits in the last 6 months, and falls well below 60%.

In December 2009, 58.6% traffic websites with a European country has achieved average with Internet Explorer, vs. 62.2% in June 2009 (a loss of 3.6 points) Within a year, Internet Explorer has seen its share of visits dropped by 6 points (March 2009: 64.6%).

For the good of the competitors

On the contrary, the competition is gaining ground: Firefox reached in December 2009 a share of 29.4% of visits on average for a European site.
Safari complete the top three with 5.1% of visits. Chrome ranks at the foot of the podium at 4.1%.

For the readers of TIO News, we have noticed that they preferred Firefox for a 41% of them against 26% for Internet Explorer while the other browsers chosen by our visitors are successively Google Chrome, Safari, Opera and Konqueror.

However, the recent announcement of Internet Explorer  vulnerability in terms of security should not change the trend in the coming weeks ...
