What future can we imagine for MySQL?

After Sun's acquisition by Oracle and an international petition to "liberate" MySQL from the clutches of Oracle, what can we imagine about the future of MySQL ?

MySQL as a matter- Changes on softwares are decisive for users- especially when it comes to the most used Open Source database in the world (over 100 million copies downloaded or distributed since its creation). After the acquisition of MySQL by Sun, then Sun's acquisition by Oracle, MySQL users are concerned about the future of RDBMS free. Oracle has recently committed to continue investment in the Open Source database. But we do not see the benefit for Oracle to develop a free tool when they sell exactly the competitor but paying solution.

And for the future?- Actually, what we can imagine is the following situation: Oracle will continue to develop the standard version of MySQL. The standard database MySQL is used in most websites but which do not require high performance. And this solution does not compete with Oracle's one.

MySQL Cluster threatened- On the contrary, MySQL Cluster - a MySQL improved database, which helps to distribute the load over several computers- this part of MySQL is the direct competitor of Oracle. So we can suppose that this part will be sunk by Oracle, which can say then "we keep on developing MySQL, look at all the websites which use it". Then, consequently, all the critical applications that currently use MySQL cluster will have to change their Data Base for Oracle's one. This is what could or should happen if we think in a logical way but we just hope that we are wrong...
