French initiatives around open source interoperability clouds have developed at great speed in the past few months- and among them, the FCA. But now, a new project has appeared : the idea of unifying these communities. Compatible One -a project born within Systematic Workgroup Free- aims at materializing this union. At the end of the path should come open source technicals to enable the transferability from a cloud to another.
Compatible One project actually tries to meet a clear need : to encourage companies to switch to the cloud, while they are still relatively unwilling to do it -especially for confidentiality or security reasons, without forgetting the Seller's famous lock, which restricts a company to a single provider.
Compatible One exactly aims at dropping this restriction in a very concrete way. Labeled by Systematic, Compatible One is a candidate for a 10,447,000 euros project call (FUI 10-10th Inter-Ministerial single fund). Moreover, the project has got the support of Open Source influential actors. Among them: Nuxeo, Mandriva, Enova, Prologue, Nexedi, Bull, INRIA and the Institute of Telecom for the academic side and finally the OW2 consortium.
Compatible One sounds somewhat like the open source rallying call for a theme which should have a bright future.
