Data loss: 1/4 of Businesses is not protected

Companies seem to Underestimate the financial Risks associated with the Loss of sensitive Data.

Each year, the Loss of Computer Data results in a Shortfall of several billion Euros for the Companies concerned. A recent Survey by Quocirca Research Institute confirmed this trend.

A Lack of Protection which can result very expensive for Companies- Conducted in 14 countries, Quocirca Survey estimated that only 28% of the Companies have deployed a Solution for Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Most of them underestimate the economic Consequences. Indeed "recent leaks of sensitive Data show that electronic Storage often gets insufficient attention. But this Lack of Protection can be expensive- particularly with fines which are nowadays imposed by Governments. Moreover there are Damages for the Image and a Loss of Competitiveness generally resulting" says Bob Tarzey, Quocirca Analyst and Director. According to the Ponemon Institute, 53% to 65% of the amount of Losses is directly related to Sales that will not be realized.

Data can be on other Devices than the internal Network- According to Quocirca, Businesses reduce Ccomputing Security to the internal network, without realizing that a Data Flow actually exists on other devices - removable hard drives, CDs, USB sticks, laptops, etc.. - and that they are often sensitive throughout their life cycle.

Consequently, the Survey encourages Companies to develop tools to "link the use of Data with the people concerned." This is the objective of DLP Solutions which manage the access rights to documents -like in ERP5 System for example-  and Data throughout their life-cycle.
